Good governance

The duties and responsibilities of the trustees are governed by legislation and the FundsAtWork Umbrella Pension and Provident Fund rules. Among their duties and responsibilities is taking reasonable steps to ensure that the interests of members are protected at all times and acting with care, diligence and good faith.

The trustees of the FundsAtWork Umbrella Funds have extensive knowledge and experience. At least half of the trustees are independent and have no relationship with Momentum.

Legal updates

We keep our clients up to date with legislative changes and requirements. Members, employers and financial advisers can find the latest information in our legal update library.

Retirement and insurance legislation is reviewed and updated from time to time. Staying compliant with legislation is not a simple task, but our team of experts makes sure that we are compliant so that we can protect the members' interests.

Other bodies

South Africa has several institutions and bodies that exist to oversee all aspects of the employee benefits industry. The main ones are:

  • Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) - The FSCA is the market conduct regulator of financial institutions that provide financial products and financial services, financial institutions that are licensed in terms of a financial sector law, including banks, insurers, retirement funds and administrators, and market infrastructures.
  • The Pension Funds Adjudicator resolves complaints in terms of the Pension Funds Act; to uphold the integrity of the pension fund industry and to protect the interests of pension fund members.
